Purpose:
The REMTON Code of Conduct sets out the expected behaviours, responsibilities,
and ethical standards for both mentors and mentees.
It ensures professionalism, respect, and a safe environment for personal and career growth.
Mentors are expected to:
● Be Committed – Dedicate time and effort to support the mentee’s growth.
● Be a Role Model – Demonstrate ethical, professional, and respectful behaviour.
● Listen Actively – Understand the mentee’s goals, challenges, and aspirations before offering advice.
● Guide, Don’t Control – Empower mentees to make their own informed decisions.
● Share Knowledge & Opportunities – Provide constructive feedback and access to resources.
● Maintain Boundaries – Keep the relationship professional at all times.
● Respect Diversity – Be sensitive to cultural, gender, and personal differences.
● Protect Confidentiality – Never disclose mentee’s personal information without permission.
● Avoid Sexual Harassment – Zero tolerance for unwanted sexual advances, comments, jokes,
or physical contact of a sexual nature. This includes any verbal, non-verbal,
or digital behaviour that makes a mentee uncomfortable.
● Report Misconduct – Notify REMTON of any concerns or violations.
Mentees are expected to:
● Be Proactive – Take responsibility for your own learning and progress.
● Set Clear Goals – Define and share your mentorship expectations.
● Be Punctual and Prepared – Respect your mentor’s time.
● Be Open to Feedback – Accept constructive criticism and act on it.
● Follow Through – Complete agreed tasks and activities.
● Maintain Professionalism – Communicate respectfully and appropriately.
● Be Honest and Transparent – Share challenges truthfully.
● Respect Boundaries – Keep interactions professional.
● Avoid Sexual Harassment – Zero tolerance for unwanted sexual remarks, jokes, messages,
advances, or physical contact towards the mentor. This includes inappropriate behaviour
in-person, online, or via messaging platforms.
● Protect Confidentiality – Keep the mentor’s shared information private.
